When Nat Banini and Nana King
came up with an idea of making a movie in America a lot of us felt it was ludicrous . How can this happen? We forgot that America is a land of opportunities and people realize their dreams in this land.
I remember vividly the passion in his eyes when Nat looked at me as he told me of the intended project. I could feel his enthusiasm and edge to go out there and start with the shoot right away.
I have known Nat going back to Ghana.   I came into contact with this gentleman when I was working  as a producer and director with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation. and later as a film student at the National Film Institute in Ghana . Nat was then an actor and therefore our friendship was mutual on all aspects in the field of our expertise.
The thing that caught my attention about Nat was his  meaning to his words. He does what he says he will do. He took his word seriously and always acted professionally.
The fact that Nana King who is also an actor and Nat were able to put together a story and able to interpret the script through the lens of the camera is a modest achievement that deserves recognition. Omama ...The Royal Blood has been produced and directed here in Chicago.  The interesting thing about the whole movie is that it was shot in just two weeks! As a film maker I am truly amazed by this achievement and I thing they need to be given the thumps up.
The story is an experience that many aliens go through when they set foot on this land. The desire to follow the American dream causes many people to do whatever it takes to realize that. It tends to change our course of direction and our morals.
The movie showcases the frustration of a young man, sent to America by members of his little village in Ghana to become a lawyer with the intention of using his knowledge to fight and redeem their land that has been under litigation for years on end. This young man arrives  on this land of hope and freedom only to be swayed off his intended course as he falls for the all powerful American woman!

Is this news? NO ! Why? Because it happens all the time for obvious reasons.
But the twist to this scenario is that we tend to forget, the  ultimate price we have to pay for this to the disadvantage of our immediate and to some extent our extended families. The movie takes you through this journey of a troubled young man and his struggle with our values and believes that we cherish as Africans. In the end who wins the battle is for you to find out. Very exciting!
Most of the time Africans do not support ourselves  when some of us take the initiative to venture into businesses for self. We tend to ignore and criticize their efforts and excite and talk about it when it fails, that is wrong.  These guys have taken a bold step and we all need to be proud of them. How many of us thought that an African movie can be planned and shot in Chicago...... Think about the logistics, equipment,  cast, crew, money and time involved. It is definitely not easy!
The best way we as Ghanaians and the African community at large can do to support them is to patronize the sale of this movie in our African markets and other places.
A lot of us do not take time off our busy work schedules to go to the movie theaters to watch movies. We do not have the luxury of munching on some popcorn whilst the scenes from the movie unfolds, however we can enjoy this Ghanaian movie right in the comfort of our homes while we “cut through” our fufu and soup!
Any time any of us buys a copy of the movie you are also helping our deprived folks back home in Ghana because part of the proceeds from the sale of the movie will be donated to hospitals and AIDS victims in Ghana.  This is a very noble cause and a great idea by the owners of this movie.

Text Box: Take a moment dear reader , to think about this .... when the Tsunami hit, it hit hard in Asia and parts of east Africa, may the souls of the victims rest in peace. We do not want to think about another Tsunami disaster to occur in our lifetime but what if it hits again and this time it moves to the west of Africa instead of the east !! Ghana is unfortunately on the coastline. Is our hospitals and emergency relief units ready and up to the task?
A word to the wise is in my little village. Let’s help a good cause when the movie hits the stores soon. Buy a copy of the movie and help a worthy cause.
