I met a friend a couple of weeks ago and we had a conversation on a variety of issues. In the course of our conversation we talked about my articles for this paper. My friend said that he enjoyed reading my articles because as he put it “you are down to earth and easy  to understand on  what you are talking about” I thanked my friend for his kind and objective analysis of my articles and promised to do my best to serve readers. This emphasizes the need to be clear, simple and precise when trying to communicate with others so as not to leave any doubt in the minds of the reader as to your intentions. In the last edition of this paper yours truly wrote about an upcoming essay competition for our Ghanaian youth in school from the ages of 10 to 18 yrs. This essay competition is being put together by the Mmrantie Kuo of Bolingrook to get the youth participation in our activities. This article will try to outline the topic for the competition and the modalities involved to get your essay submitted for grading. The topic for this competition is; The Impact of Ghanafest on our Youth in Chicago.   This topic was chosen to serve as a feedback tool to assess our Ghanaians living in the diaspora and the efforts at maintaining our unique cultural values and practices. Ghanaians are Ghanaians not because we are blacks but I believe strongly that it is because of our morals and values that we cherish so much. This genuine believe drove us to create Ghanafest. This event is organized every year with the hope of showcasing  and teaching our children and the rest of the world who we are and what we as Ghanaians believe in. The aim of this competition for our youth who will be tomorrow’s leaders, to show how much they have learned from Ghanafest and what it means to them. This is a great opportunity for our youth to express themselves on what the impact (if any) of Ghanaian culture and practices through Ghanafest means to them and their way of life in this part of the world. The youth will be challenged to produce an essay that will outline all these factors and then submit on our website.  These essays will be marked and graded and a winner declared. There will be three (3) prospective winners who will be awarded prices and these winners will be the focus of the Mmrantie Kuo awards ceremony this year on the 10th of December 2005 at the Holiday Hotels and Suites in Bolingbrook.

The motivation of this competition is the cash prices to be won. The purpose is for the Mmrantie Kuo of Bolingbrook to help encourage Ghanaian youth in our community to  research into our culture and  to make the effort to know who we are and what we believe in turns of values. This will also help to test their ability to research into any given topic and test their essay writing skills. Its Showtime !!!
